Yes! It's true! Hill Street Blues and N.Y.P.D. Blue, two of the best TV cops shows, both created by Steven Bochco crossed over, linking them in a common reality. And... I... just... can't... bare... to explain how. So I will chicken out, back up and explain the shows first.

Hill Street Blue was the underground hit cop show of the 80's. It reinvented the police drama with a squad of cops all too human and flawed. Up until then most cop shows portrayed cops as perfect or close to it. Hill Street Blues had a funky bunch of cops and criminals.

Then, almost a decade later, Bochco once again redefined cop shows again with N.Y.P.D. Blue. The cops on this show were even more REAL in ways that pushed the limits of TV standards. These cops cursed on television (okay they never hit the biggest bad words but they hit a lot of them none the less). They were also shown once in awhile buck naked. Early in the series this happen more often and with more skin showing than later on. Hey, lets be honest. To a certain extent it was a T&A ratings grabbing gimmick.

Well... I can't put the actual link off any longer (oh how I wish I could). The gimmick of N.Y.P.D. Blue and the sharing of the word "Blue" in both titles points us to the naked truth of this crossover. Both shows shared guest appearances from the same character. That character would be a black man with a tendency to take it all off and let the world see what God gave him. A man named... Buck Naked. Yes, these two giants of the police drama world are connected by a naked man named Buck Naked (played on both shows Lee Weaver).

Now here's an interesting point this brings up. N.Y.P.D. Blue is clearly set in New York city. Hill Street Blues though was set in an unnamed city. So either Hill Street Blues was set in New York or Mr. Buck Naked took his show on the road city to city, sharing the love.

If you will excuse me, I have a fetal position to curl into.
