What would cause Everybody Loves Raymond and The Nanny to do a crossover? The fact that they were both on CBS? The fact that both shows are set in New York? Well these facts were definitely contributing factors but they weren't the actual reasons for the crossover.

   The Nanny was a sitcom about a Jewish hairdresser from Queens named Fran Fine, played by Fran Drescher, who ends up becoming the nanny for the children of a rich Broadway producer. Everybody Loves Raymond was a sitcom based on the stand up comedy act of its star Ray Romano. On the show Ray played Ray Barone, sportswriter, husband, father and son. The show was largely about his family misadventures. For example: Ray buys condoms in colorful packaging so he and his wife can... you know. Ray's dad comes over to hand out candy for Halloween, runs out of candy and ends up handing out the condoms thinking they are chocolate coins. Now Ray is doubly screwed. First he has to go to all the neighbors apologize and explain. On top of that his dad gave away ALL the condoms so Ray still doesn't get any... you know.

   So what exactly happened in the crossover? Well it happened on The Nanny. The title character Fran Fine went to her class reunion. And guess who else happened to be in Fran's class? Everybody Loves Raymonds lead character Ray Barone! Which brings us back to why did this crossover happen?

   Simple. In real life Fran Drescher who played Fran Fine and Ray Romano who played Ray Barone actually did go to the same school and were in fact classmates! A couple of friends from the old school, both got New York CBS sitcoms... what the hell? If the real Ray and Fran knew each other and went to schhol together why shouldn't their TV alter egos?
